Gadolinium containing contrast agents may cause Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF).
What is NSF? NSF is a life threatening and life changing disease. It causes thickening and fibrosis of the skin, organs and other tissues.
If you have been diagnosed with NSF, we are prepared to investigate and pursue a case against the manufacturer of the Gadolinium based contrast agent. We can also assist you with receiving the latest medical treatment for this disease. Unfortunately there is no known cure at this time.
There are a number of patients with NSF who do not know if they have the disease. This terrible disease is doubly frustrating because few doctors are aware of its existence, much less the appropriate care and treatment. Therefore, we discuss below an approach to assisting with an investigation of whether you have NSF.
NSF may be the cause of your condition if there is a combination of the following two factors.
• Exposure to Gadolinium
• Serious kidney (renal) disease
These two factors are discussed in more detail below.
Exposure to Gadolinium:
What is Gadolinium? Gadolinium is an element which is used as a contrast agent in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) or a special kind of MRI used to study blood vessels called an MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography).
How is Gadolinium introduced into your body? Gadolinium is injected into the body by an intravenous line to make certain tissues more visible during imaging procedures.
If you did not receive a contrast injection in connection with the MRI or MRA, you were not exposed to Gadolinium.
Serious Kidney (Renal) Disease:
Serious kidney (renal) disease usually requiring dialysis or transplant.
Healthy kidneys filter your blood. The waste and extra water become urine. If your kidneys do not remove these wastes, the wastes build up in the blood and damage your body.
Some people do not notice any early symptoms, but common symptoms of acute kidney failure include:
• Decreased urine output, although occasionally urine output remains normal
• Fluid retention, causing swelling in your legs, ankles or feet
• Drowsiness
• Shortness of breath
• Fatigue
• Confusion
• Seizures or coma in severe cases
• Chest pain related to pericarditis, an inflammation of the sac like membrane that envelops your heart.
If you have advanced renal failure, and have the NSF like skin condition, we can coordinate with you to help you receive a further evaluation.
PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY : We have received reports that investigators are monitoring internet searches and are actually calling potential claimants under false pretenses. Be very careful with your searches and do not provide information to callers unknown to you.
